I made my girlfriend watch an episode of Big Train yesterday and she barey cracked a smile, in the end I turned it off because she wasnt really enjoying it.

Is this odd? I always thought it was universally chucklesome?

Hi guys, can anyone tell me if you do a link exchange?

The reason I ask is because I run an online community called Comedy Connection, which is similar to this group in that our members love to share their comedic talents LOL

At Comedy Connection, many of our members adopt the identities and personalities of their favourite sitcom characters. It's not strictly "original stand up" like much of the content here, but it does offer an avenue for members to try out their comedy abilities infront of other likeminded people.

"Just a Minute - The Political Edition"

Some of you may be interested to attend a charity Just a minute event on Wednesday March 12th 2008. It's run by a committee raising money for the Norwood Ravenswood Childrens Home.

Should be a great event as it is hosted by the maestro himself, Nicholas Parsons. The panel includes the much loved broadcaster John Sergeant as the political pundit, the Hon. Lembit Opik MP for the LibDems and the Hon. Lee Scott MP (for the Conservatives). The 4th panellist, probably Labour, will be announced shortly.

It's an evening or fun plus drinks and canapés! If you're in London and would like tickets then please contact Candice Mendes da Costa at Norwood on 020 8420 6898.

Hello!

Just signed up to the Comedybox after knowing of its existance for some time. I for one am particularly fond of comedy - isn't everyone - but I would be interested to learn what people might recommend for getting started. I was lucky enough to get an interview with Benjamin Crellin last year for my Radio Production course at the Univesity of Westminster after Paramount Comedy on Tour came to my Uni for one of many dates in 2007 - which was great fun. He offered some advice, but could anyone here offer any pointers?

...this week's Thursday Interview features BEN GREEN

Ben Greensville Green is a master of the one idea - one sketch principle. His pieces are brilliantly constructed and brilliantly observed, turning on one strong, central idea and building the gags around it: A man goes to job interview after being shot, a sniper will take you out if you dont donate to charity, or, best of all, a lifelike child doll you can use to beat up muggers.

His ideas also pivot on ordinary awkwardness, twisting the everyday and applying the very very silly. Its a tactic that brings to mind the best Python sketches, and latterly the sublime silliness of Big Train, though Ben himself lists his influences as Seinfeld and Columbo. He has a point with Seinfeld - the uptight and awkward plays a big part in Greensville, but Columbo is way wide of the mark - the deceptive simplicity of his ideas mean theres never a need for just one more thing to turn matters on their head, although theres inevitably violence in almost every Ben Green sketch which maybe is where the influence of the great Macintoshed one comes in.

Much like the characters he writes (though not always the ones he plays) Ben is self-effacing It takes a while for me to enjoy my own clips as I see so much wrong with them (mainly my performance). He says, which doesnt stop him exploring his darker, more childish side in his latest clip Cutter, a quick and nasty glimpse at the worlds least tactful detective: I like the whole idea of Cutter. He thinks like a selfish child with attention deficite (or however you spell the word). I'm going to do more sketches with the character.

A return for the misguided copper aside, the future holds some tantalising stuff from Greensville: Im trying out some stuff set in space says Ben I Have a massive backlog of sketches set on Earth too and I've got loads of fake blood left [from A Shot at the job] so Im going to come up with some more gory sketches!. Horror? Sci-fi? Social Awkwardness? We at Comedybox cannot wait.

I have to say that the User clips are fucking orsum.

I have my fave's but I've not had time to go through them all.

My name is Terry Mynott and I make Star ST for comedey box, and we are getting ready to make a pilot for Star ST to go to TV, I started on a site just like this so please use this forums section as your own and keep uploading clips.

Britains Comedy scene is to clickey like any other industry its cold and hard to get in to, But Comedybox is different because its John Lloyds baby it's about finding new talent tapping into people's home made comedy. But you must remember one clip is not enough or 3 minutes of funny will not get you a series you need to show you can do it more than once Comedybox found me on myspace and did not sign me up till I came up with a good enough story arch and episodes scripts so keep uploading youre clips and posting on the forum so you show up on our radar.

All I'm saying is dont go away thinking whats it gonna take for me to get somewhere with this I did a really good 3min clip ,what it going to take ? Its going to take loads of hard work people telling you stuff you dont want to hear and having to go back to the drawing board. Dont get me wrong I'm not lording it up Ive still a long way to go, but Ive seen some very funny stuff in the User Clips and I dont want people to stop because they got pissed off with it all.

So please keep them coming in, and also use this forum section as your own we dont just want to hear feedback from others, we want to hear about you and what youre up to/what are you writing, do you want to meet other writers ect

I think what's becoming more and more apparant as the Comedybox Jugganaught rumbles inexorably on, is that the User Generated portion of the site might just be the most innovative and important aspect of what we do. Of course the original stuff is great...but then it would be: we make clips with professional writers and brilliant comedians. But you lot? You lot are doing it for nothing, we're not paying you and we don't know who you are. But SO many of you are amazing!

The quality of the User clips constantly being added to site (more go up every day) are, across the board, brilliant. Really, really brilliant.

We just want you to know that it's being noted: we watch every clip that gets added, if one stands out it gets emailed around to everyone we can think of. We've already had people in for meetings about paid commisions based on the clips they've put up on Comedybox.

Comedybox is a unique experience for a budding filmaker, animator, writer or stand up. You're not just putting your video on the internet, you're putting it directly in front of a group of industry professionals who can help you towards that next step: a TV Deal, a live gig, and agent, a film. The sky is the limit if the talent and the idea is there.

This forum is a place specifically for Comedybox users to exchange ideas, get feedback, ask for advice and chew the comedy cud.

Please use it, and remember every clip you add is part of your ongoing audition.

Can't See Videos
